    What is varshphal?

Varshphal (Varshaphala) is the annual chart Vedic astrology's Tajika system casts for each year. The moment the Sun returns to the exact degree it held at birth is called the solar return .

Two main matters are analysed in this annual chart: Varshesha (Lord of the Year) — the planet that governs that year, and Muntha (Varsha-chalika) — which advances one sign every year. The whole annual reading rests on these two. For the full birth chart see → Birth chart calculation।

Tajika varshphal — the classical basis and method

Source of the Tajika system: Tajika varshphal is a specialised branch of Vedic astrology whose authoritative text is the Tajika Nilakanthi (by Nilakantha Daivajna, c. 16th century) and Varshaphala Prakasha. In this system the solar return is the foundation of the annual reading — that is, each year, at the precise moment the Sun returns to its ecliptic position at birth (the exact sign and degree it then held), the planetary positions of that instant form the annual chart (varsha kundali).

Varshesha and Muntha: The two main determining elements of the Tajika method are Year lord (the planet that rules the year, called the king of the year — the one that is strongest among Tajika's five candidates) and Muntha (the varsha-chalika — it advances one sign each year from the sign of the janma lagna). The affairs of whichever house the Muntha occupies become the year's most important ones.

Tajika yogas: Ithasala (mutual contact between planets), Ishrafa, Nakta, Mushtari and the other Tajika yogas are used in the annual reading. These yogas are consistent with the aspect concept of Western astrology but are determined by a distinct, original Indian method of calculation.

Technical basis of the calculation: This website's varshphal calculation uses the VSOP87 solar-system model to determine the true longitude of the planets. Rahu-Ketu are taken as the Moon's mean node, and the lagna is determined using the geographic location (latitude/longitude) and local solar time.

    Frequently asked questions

What is varshphal, or the annual horoscope?

Varshphal (Varshaphala) is an annual chart cast by the solar return method. Each year, when the Sun returns to its position at birth, the planetary positions of that moment are read for the whole year ahead.

What does an annual horoscope tell you?

The annual chart shows the year's ruling planet and its effect — what changes are coming in career, money, health, love and family life.

What details are needed to calculate varshphal?

For an accurate varshphal you need the date of birth, the time of birth, the place of birth (latitude and longitude), and the year you want the forecast for.

Can varshphal be seen straight after casting a kundali?

Yes. Birth chart — after the calculation, click the ☀️ Varshphal button on the tab bar and the birth details pass to the varshphal page automatically.

Do I have to enter the time zone and latitude-longitude myself?

No. When you pick a city, the time zone and coordinates fill in by themselves. If you want to enter the values yourself, press the ⚙️ button beside the city line — Advanced settings will open.

What is the difference between varshphal and rashifal?

Rashifal usually goes by the Moon sign and gives the same result to everyone of the same sign. Varshphal (the Tajika method) takes your own date, time and place of birth and builds a separate chart for the moment of the solar return — the varsha kundali — so the result is personal.

    What is Varshesha?

Varshesha is the ruling planet of that year — the "king of the year". By seeing in which house Varshesha stands and how strong it is, the main tone of the year is understood. Who becomes Varshesha is decided by measuring the strength of five candidates (see the question below).

    How is Varshesha chosen?

From among five candidates — the lord of the Muntha, of the varsha lagna, of the janma lagna, the trirashi lord and the dina-ratri lord — the one with the greatest panchavargiya bala (measured in five parts: griha, uchcha, hadda, drekkana and navamsha) is Varshesha.

What is the Muntha and how does it affect the results?

The Muntha is not a planet but a mathematical point — it moves forward one sign each year from the sign of the janma lagna. In the varsha kundali, the matters of the house in which the Muntha falls (such as career, money, relationships) gain special importance that year.

Can the 2027 varshphal be seen right now?

Yes. Select Year 2026 or Year 2027 in the form and enter your birth details, and you can see that year's varshphal.

How do I enter the birthplace, and can the details be saved?

Pressing the GPS button on the form fills in your current location; if the birthplace is different, type the city name and select it. If you keep the birth details as a profile with the "Save" button, next time you can choose them by name with the "Search" button.

Is varshphal free? How much does the PDF cost?

Viewing varshphal is always free. The formatted PDF report costs ₹51; if you have a promo code, you can use it.

Why is my varshphal chart not made on the date of my birthday?

Varshphal is not made for a calendar date but for the moment when the Sun returns to your birth sign-degree-minute. The solar year is about 365 days 6 hours, so this moment falls a few hours before or after the birthday, and sometimes even on the previous or next day — this is not a calculation error.

What happens to the varshphal if the birth time is wrong by a few minutes?

The varshphal calculation rests on the Sun's degree at birth. If the birth time is wrong by a few minutes, the moment of the solar return shifts, so the varsha lagna, the house of the Muntha, and even Varshesha can change. If the birth time is approximate, take the results that depend on the varsha lagna with care.

Are varshphal and the Vimshottari dasha the same thing?

No. The Vimshottari dasha is a long-term scheme for the whole of life, while varshphal is a picture of just one year. The two are not substitutes for each other but complements — read together, they give the full picture.

What is the difference between the Tajika and Parashari methods?

In the Parashari method of the birth chart, a planet's aspect is based on signs and houses and is fixed. In Tajika the aspect is dynamic: whether two planets are drawing closer in degrees (Ithasala) or moving apart (Ishrafa) shows whether a matter will be completed this year or not.

Is varshphal the same as the Western solar return?

The starting idea is the same — the chart of the moment the Sun returns to its birth degree. But the Western solar return is usually done in the sayana (tropical) zodiac, whereas varshphal is read in the nirayana (sidereal) zodiac with the Muntha, Varshesha and Tajika yogas — so the results of the two methods do not match exactly.
